Explore the natural environment and become nature art collectors. Fill your own sketchbooks with your discoveries. Draw and record landscapes, collect words and sounds, explore colour and texture. Individual sketchbooks provided.
This workshop is available as a double session (1.5 hrs) in Sudbury’s beautiful water meadows or as single session (45 mins) in our delightful walled garden at Gainsborough’s House.
The workshops can be led by Gainsborough’s House Learning team or self-directed.
The Sketchbook Activities:
Describe a Landscape – Take time to enjoy the environment and use the senses to explore and record the landscape
BIG and small – Use viewfinders and magnifying glasses to explore and draw the bigger picture and a tiny detail
Collecting Palette – Collect tiny examples of natural objects to fill your palette with natural colours and textures
Give me five colours – Look at and record the colours that are all around with the eyes of an artist.
Give me five sounds – Take time to listen carefully and enjoy the sounds of nature all around
Painting with reflections – Explore the colours in water and how artists paint water in their landscapes
Natural textures and nature rubbings– play a blindfold game to explore natural textures and record the textures you find
You can choose three activities for a single session.
The double session lasts for 2 hours to include walking time to and from the water meadows
