Description

Educated at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art, Cooper achieved early success in the art world. In 1935, 19-year-old Cooper was exhibiting her work in West End galleries and being singled out by critics as an ‘outstanding’ young artist.

Her career was interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War, followed by marriage and motherhood, Cooper laid aside her artistic ambitions and was subsequently forgotten. Reminiscent of the work of Cooper’s contemporaries Christopher Wood and Eric Ravilious, her pieces are charming and surreal, distinguished by the striking originality of her vision.

This merchandise was created to be sold along-side with the Suzanne Cooper Exhibition which consisted of a variety of her print work as well as paintings from 1935–39.
