A beautifully designed A5 Sketchbook featuring ‘Study for a portrait of Ann Ford (Detail)’ Thomas Gainsborough c.1760.

This is the study for ‘Portrait of Ann Ford’ – Thomas Gainsborough c.1760.
The painting was specifically made to show off Gainsborough’s expertise in painting portraits, which was later intended to be hung up in Gainsborough’s showroom in Bath. Despite Ann Ford being a controversial figure, Gainsborough did not fail to impress others as the final piece became a memorable and influential image for British Portraitists in the late 18th and throughout the 19th century.
