Painted Faces – stitching portraits inspired by de László with Juliet Lockhart

April 28 @ 10:00 amMay 26 @ 4:00 pm

Sundays: 28 April, 12 and 26 May 2024
10am to 4pm, three-day course spread over six weeks

Whether painted, photographed or stitched, a portrait must tell a story. Join Juliet Lockhart as you immerse yourself in the world of Philip De László, his life and work. His father was a tailor and his mother a seamstress – already a strong link to textiles and stitching. Over the three-day course, we will be inspired by his painting methods to explore various techniques using fabric, dyes and pencils to produce a portrait. This course is for anyone interested in using the figure in their work and it is suitable for all abilities – you do not have to be able to draw to take part!

The course takes place over six weeks so that you will have time to work at your pace in between sessions using materials created during our days together in the Galleries. The course includes a talk and a guided tour of the exhibition. You will also receive a course kit of materials and equipment to use in the classes as well as to work on your creations at home.

Cost: £230 per person for the three-day course
