A bright and satirical postcard featuring James Gillray’s The Installation-Supper, 1788.

Gillray’s imagined recreation of the private supper enjoyed by the Prince of Wales, the Duke of York and a ‘select party of their friends’, which was part of an enormous party occasioned by the installation of eleven new Knights of the Bath in 1788. Gillray etched seventy figures taking supper and took the opportunity to produce a series of comic juxtapositions of enemies, rivals, friends and lovers.
