Hubert-François Gravelot (1699-1773) was a prolific and versatile designer who moved from Paris to London in 1732 and is credited with introducing the French ‘Rococo’ style to England. He was a drawing master at the St Martin’s Lane Academy and mentored Gainsborough at the outset of his career.
